2022 Members Biennial Exhibition

Now accepting submissions for the
2022 Members Biennial exhibition

Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA) is now accepting submissions for our 2022 Members Biennial exhibition, scheduled to open August 20, 2022, at Flagstar Strand Theatre.

Occurring every other year, the members biennial exhibit aims to showcase artwork from artists who have contributed to and shown support for Paint Creek Center for the Arts’ mission through annual membership.

There is no set theme for the 2022 Members Biennial, meaning member artists can submit work in a broad range of themes and subject matter, so long as work is appropriate for the all-ages nature of Flagstar Strand Theatre.  A short statement about the work must accompany your submission and will be displayed alongside your artwork at the theatre for the entire duration of the exhibit. Member artists creating work in the following visual mediums are encouraged to submit artwork for consideration.

Accepted mediums:

  • Ceramic (any)
  • Digital Art (made with a computer, phone, or tablet) including animation and film
  • Traditional drawing and illustration (pen and ink, charcoal, graphite, crayon, pastel, etc.)
  • Fiber (any) and Leather
  • Furniture
  • Glass (stained, blown, fused, etc.)
  • Jewelry (any)
  • Metal
  • Mixed media
  • Painting (any)
  • Photography
  • Printmaking (hand manipulated by using etching, engraving, silk-screening, stone and plate lithography, linoleum block or woodcut, etc.)
  • Sculpture
  • Wood

Submission Requirements

  • Applying artist must be a member of Paint Creek Center for the Arts, with membership not expiring before November 1st, 2022
    • Where artwork is made by a partnership or small group (less than four people) every artist must have an active Individual membership or be listed under an active Family/Group membership
  • Artwork is original and created entirely by the artist(s), with work derived from direct observation or self-made source material. Reproductions of other artists work, calendars, buy/sell, MLM, photos not your own, logos or characters used without license, etc., are not acceptable and should not be submitted for this exhibit
  • Artwork is not more than 3 years old (finished in 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022).
  • No more than 5 works to be submitted for consideration per artist/group. Image files should be labeled “Last Name_Title of Work” to avoid confusing the jurors
  • Work must be ready to display! If submitting work that needs to be framed or mounted for proper display at time of exhibition, please be sure this will be possible before the drop-off date!
  • Artist statement about each piece submitted, not to exceed 450 words per statement

New This Year

  • PCCA students and faculty members should avoid submitting the same artwork for both our Student & Faculty Exhibition and our Members Biennial as the shows will overlap one another
  • The gallery space at the Flagstar Strand Theatre occupies nearly the entire second floor of the building, leaving room for more work to be accepted than typically allowed at the gallery at PCCA
  • Opening AND closing receptions to be held at Strand Theatre. (Opening: August 20, 2022. Closing: October 29, 2022. Times to be announced.)
  • Juried by Exhibition Committee and Flagstar Strand Theatre representative(s)
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cash prizes to be announced following opening reception. Award ribbons will be on public display next to artwork throughout the duration of the exhibit
  • All artwork accepted into the exhibit will be included in a 2022 Members Biennial catalog, with a copies available for order. Final details of the catalog will be released mid-to-late June.

Exhibit Schedule

Please review the schedule below before submitting your application for inclusion. PCCA will not be able to accept late applications, late work, or early pick-up of artwork due to the nature of the venue and the show.

Artwork Drop-Off (Strand Gallery): week of August 8, final date tbd by Strand Gallery availability. Will likely only be one or two days.

Opening Reception & Award Presentation: August 20, 2022

Closing Reception: October 29, 2022 – Celebrating PCCA’s 40th anniversary.

Artwork Pick-Up (Strand Gallery): week of October 31 – November 4, final date tbd by Strand Gallery availability. Will likely only be one or two days.

Membership with Paint Creek Center for the Arts

Membership with PCCA is a tax-deductible donation and just one of many ways that the public can help ensure Paint Creek Center for the Arts continues to provide art programming all year long. In return for their annual contribution, Members receive special discounts on class, workshop and camp registration, access to our Ceramic Open Studio (when registered for a ceramics class) and discounts on art supplies at Blick’s when they show their current class registration. Members also have the opportunity to participate in our on- and off-site exhibitions, exclusive Members Biennial exhibit, and our Art Market and holiday Art Markets where they earn higher pay rates for work sold on consignment.
