Art on Auburn

What is Art on Auburn?

Art on Auburn is a Rochester Hills community project bringing K-12 student artwork to new audiences through art applied directly to the surface of Auburn Road! At least 20 pieces of student artwork will be selected by a jury and community members to be printed on Auburn Road during the spring/summer of 2021. The final product will be unveiled at a community-wide celebration.

Application Details

  • Open to student artists K-12, attending Rochester and Avondale public schools, as well as other schools that primarily serve Rochester Hills students.
  • Artists may use up to 5 colors in their design, in any 2-dimensional material they like. Please note that black and white are both considered a color for the final application.
  • Blocks of solid colors (no shading) work best for this application.
  • Artwork will be applied in CIRCLES approximately 6-7 ft in diameter. Artists must create designs that fit within a circle, not a rectangle or square.
  • The deadline for entries is February 26, 2021. Artwork can be submitted as early as February 1, 2021.
  • A jury of artists and community representatives will select 50 outstanding works of art to go on for community voting.
  • Community voting will take place between March 15-26.
  • The top 20-25 entries will be printed during the spring or summer of 2021.
  • Printed artwork has a life expectancy of up to 10 years.

Submit Your Design

Artists will upload a picture of their finished artwork to the entry form (check back on February 1 for a link to submit).

A complete application must include the student’s first and last name, school and grade, as well as an image of the proposed design. Parent’s submitting on behalf of younger children should submit their child’s entry through an email address that they (the parent) check often. Any response emails will be addressed to the creating artist, not necessarily the parent.

Artwork CAN NOT include political statements, profanity, nudity, logos or copyrighted artwork or symbols, religious symbols, libel, slander or social disrespect. Entries with these elements will not be selected for participation.

PCCA and the City of Rochester Hills reserve the right to use design sketches and photographs of finished artwork for the purpose of promoting Art on Auburn through, but not limited to, social media and print advertising.
